As Norbert Sawicki, Michal Materla’s manager and brother, revealed, the FAME MMA federation made an offer impossible to refuse.

This is the best money Michal has ever fought for,” Sawicki admitted in an interview with the MMA Rocks portal.

Many fans immediately began to speculate that it was financial issues that prevailed in his decision to quit KSW, with which Materla had been strongly associated for years. The choice of FAME MMA means not only media publicity for him, but also unprecedented stakes in Polish MMA.

A proposal from KSW

Martin Lewandowski, co-owner of the KSW federation, also spoke on the matter. In an interview with WP SportoweFakty he revealed that his organisation was ready to pay as much as PLN 2 million for Materla’s fight. Despite that, the fighter and his manager decided to accept the freak federation’s offer.

Michal no longer makes decisions on his own. I believe that his brother and manager have other priorities than the fighter’s sporting development,” said Lewandowski.

In his opinion, choosing FAME MMA is taking the ‘easier route’, which will not necessarily bring sporting benefits.

Controversy surrounding the manager

The KSW co-founder did not hide his disappointment with Materla’s decision to leave. He stressed that Norbert Sawicki had long been critical of his federation, which may have influenced the fighter’s decision. He accused the manager of acting not always in line with Michal’s own interests. Materla’s manager, on the other hand, argues that it was FAME MMA that presented the most concrete and transparent offer that could not be refused – both financially and organisationally.

The clash between Michał Materla and Dawid “Crazy” Załęcki promises to be one of the most interesting events of the upcoming FAME 27 gala. The fight will take place under the rules of small-glove boxing, and the fighters will face each other in three rounds of three minutes each. The duel has co-main event status, while the fight of the evening will see an equally controversial juxtaposition – Tomasz Adamek vs Roberto Soldić.
