The second season of the series '1670' has just rolled onto Netflix and immediately stirred up emotions. The Polish historical-satirical production is back with renewed energy, more momentum and an even sharper look at our national vices. Will '1670' season 2 repeat the success of the first instalment? Or will it redefine the concept of comedy in the Polish edition?

‘1670’ returns – the second series of the Netflix hit is now available

In December 2023, the series ‘1670’ won the hearts of viewers with its original combination of history, satire and mockumentary style. Now, after almost two years of waiting, Netflix is serving up a second season to viewers that not only continues the themes familiar from the first instalment, but does so with more flair and bolder satire.

The creators do not slow down – instead of repeating the tried and tested patterns, they push the boundaries of absurdity and irony even further. And all this in the well-known village of Adamczycha, ruled by the nobleman Jan Paweł Adamczewski – patriot, lord and head of a family that is experiencing its own dramas and absurdities.

What’s new in season 2 of the series “1670”? More history, more absurdity, more Poland

In the new season, the characters go on … all-inclusive holidays. Yes, you read that right – to an “imaginary Turkey” of the 17th century. Screens, deckchairs, fights for a place by the fire and even ritual dances all appear in the second series, bringing to mind holiday nightmares from the modern era.

The creators play with convention but also expand the universe: there are new characters, more locations and non-obvious scenarios. Humour still plays first fiddle, but alongside it there is also more reflection and emotion – from nostalgia to horror to bitter irony.

Cast and production changes

The cast remains mostly unchanged – Bartłomiej Topa, Katarzyna Herman, Martyna Byczkowska, Dobromir Dymecki or Kiryl Pietruczuk return. The exception is the character of Stanislaw – in season 2 this role is played by Filip Zaręba, replacing Michal Balicki.

Is ‘1670’ season 2 a success? Here are the strongest points of the new series

The series “1670” proves that Polish production can be bold, brilliant and unique. The scriptwriters are not afraid to experiment, and the direction introduces rhythm and tension even where absurdity reigns. The acting ensemble gives their all – Topa as Adamczewski is charismatic and grotesque at the same time, while the younger cast brings freshness and excitement.

A series not only for history fans

“1670” season 2 is not only a comedy, it is a mirror held up to society. Criticism of national myths, mocking of stereotypes, playing with religion and identity – all this makes the series evoke extreme emotions. Some people cry with laughter, others feel offended. Even if history is not your fable, it is worth giving it a chance. “1670” is first and foremost a story about us – Poles – given in a distorting mirror, but with great sensitivity and intelligence.
