The whole commotion began with a conversation between Klaudia Halejcio and Oskar Wojciechowski on Magda Mołek’s podcast ‘W moim stylu’. A particular segment sparked strong reactions: the part concerning the actress’s career and her decision to step away from regular theatre work. Wojciechowski spoke about his influence on his wife’s career change and her growing presence on social media.

Comments began to circulate online suggesting that the way the entrepreneur spoke about the situation might imply he had exerted too much influence over his partner’s decisions. Critics drew particular attention to his statement that he had discouraged Halejcio from pursuing theatre and had not taken her arguments regarding stage work very seriously.

It was me who put Klaudia off the theatre. Klaudia started running a campaign on Instagram and I said to her: ‘Look, this is how it is – people like it, people watch it. Well, I get it, the theatre… she gave me a thousand reasons why the theatre is important, but I wasn’t really interested in those arguments, and she herself only realised over time that it could be shelved completely,” said Wojciechowski on the podcast.

Katarzyna Zielińska has commented on the matter. The actress publicly criticised the tone of Wojciechowski’s remarks and suggested that a partner should support his wife’s talent.

It’s very sad. Instead of being a source of strength for his wife and supporting her talent. I’m horrified by these comments,” wrote Zielińska.

Her comment quickly began to circulate in the media and became one of the main points of discussion surrounding the interview.

Klaudia Halejcio responds and emphasises: the decision was hers

Klaudia Halejcio did not leave the criticism unanswered. In an emotional video, she argued that the online discussion had been built around a short excerpt from a longer conversation, and that the picture of her marriage portrayed in some of the comments had, in her view, little to do with reality.

The actress pointed out that she has not performed in the theatre for years and questioned the sudden interest in her former career path. She also addressed Katarzyna Zielińska directly. She pointed out to her that this concern for her colleague’s art and theatre career had only emerged now, rather than at the time when Halejcio was actually making changes to her professional life.

Halejcio also maintained that leaving the theatre had been her own decision. According to her account, Oskar Wojciechowski did not take away her dreams, but helped her find the courage to embark on a different career path. The actress describes their relationship as one of equals and claims that her husband believed in her potential at a time when she herself was afraid of change.

Halejcio made it clear that she does not accept Wojciechowski being portrayed as someone who held her back. In her response, she emphasised that she holds his role in her life in very high regard and has no intention of remaining silent when, in her view, unfair interpretations appear online.

“To me, he is my best friend. He is the person I admire most in the world, and that is why I will not allow him to be made out to be a monster just because someone watched a few seconds of an edited conversation,” she stated.

The actress also accused her critics of taking her comments out of context. In her view, the brief, widely shared excerpt from the conversation does not reflect either the nature of her relationship or the actual circumstances behind the career decisions she has made over recent years.
