Latwogang’s collection for Cancer Fighters has broken a record. The amount continues to grow

Łatwogang has raised a fortune for Cancer Fighters. How much money went into the collection?

The campaign led by Piotr “Łatwogang” Garkowski started on 17 April and lasted for nine days. The stream ended on 26 April at around 21:37 with a result of PLN 251 885 518. However, this was not the end – donations continued to pour in and the Cancer Fighters Foundation reported that the total amount from all platforms and channels was being updated on a regular basis.

The initial target was to raise PLN 500,000. This threshold was reached almost immediately, and the online campaign instantly turned into a nationwide event. Latwogang’s collection for Cancer Fighters also broke the Guinness World Record as the largest charity stream in the world. TVN24 also reported that the broadcast set a record for the largest number of simultaneous viewers watching a Polish stream, with 1.6 million people following it on 26 April.

Where did Łatwogang’s collection come from? It all started with a track by Bedoes and Mai Mecan

The impetus for the campaign was the song ‘Ciągle tutaj jestem (diss na raka)’, recorded by Bedoes 2115 and 11-year-old Maja Mecan, a Cancer Fighters Foundation ward suffering from leukaemia. It was this song that Łatwogang listened to throughout the broadcast.

The stream had a simple but highly emotional message: to raise money for children with cancer and to publicise their needs. In practice, it became something much bigger – an online solidarity movement joined by viewers, influencers, artists, athletes and celebrities.

Among others, Doda, Bedoes 2115, Oki, Żabson, Julia Wieniawa, Katarzyna Nosowska, Grzegorz Hyży, Vito Bambino and Sanah appeared during Łatwogang’s stream. Athletes were also involved in the campaign – including Robert Lewandowski, Adam Małysz, Jan Błachowicz and Artur Szpilka.

Some people made donations, others offered items for auction. Robert Lewandowski pledged to donate signed FC Barcelona football jerseys and to meet with the foundation’s charges. The ice skater Vladimir Semyunnij donated his Olympic medal for auction.

Cancer Fighters is launching a special page. The foundation wants to show where the money will go

After the record-breaking fundraising, a key question arose: how will the money be used? The Cancer Fighters Foundation has announced the launch of a special website to act as a public hub for information on how the money will be spent. The organisation stressed that it wants to show step-by-step what decisions are being made, who the aid is going to and the impact of every penny spent.

The foundation said that the funds will be used, among other things, for treatment, rehabilitation, medication, transport to clinics, specialist consultations and the daily functioning of the wards during their illness. The money is also intended to help people who need prostheses, specialised equipment or solutions to help them return to as normal a life as possible because of their cancer.

What will Cancer Fighters use the money from the Latwogang collection for?

According to the foundation’s announcement, support can range from individual wards to larger medical projects. Cancer Fighters is in talks with clinics in Poland and is analysing the most urgent needs. This includes purchasing equipment, retrofitting wards, improving treatment conditions, supporting specific medical programmes and larger infrastructure projects.

This is an important part of the overall story, as the scale of Latwogang’s fundraising is unprecedented. With such a large amount of money, transparency becomes not only an expectation of internet users, but also a condition for maintaining the enormous trust that has been created around the campaign.

Łatwogang, Bedoes and the call for a day to fight childhood cancer

The finale of the broadcast was very emotional. Łatwogang called for 26 April to become a day to fight children’s cancer. He stressed that the collection should not be a one-off spurt, but the start of regular support for children with cancer.

The topic also quickly found its way into public debate. As reported by Rzeczpospolita, the Speaker of the Sejm, Włodzimierz Czarzasty, announced the possibility of establishing 26 April as a day to fight children’s cancer.

Why did Łatwogang’s collection for Cancer Fighters move the whole of Poland?

The success of the Łatwogang stream was not solely due to the huge number of viewers. The campaign combined several elements: a simple goal, strong emotions, authenticity, celebrity participation and a sense of real impact. Internet users saw that even small donations, repeated by thousands of people, could have an unimaginable effect.

Symbolic gestures of solidarity with children suffering from cancer were also important. During the broadcast, some guests decided to shave their heads or get tattoos, among other things. Such moments were widely commented on social media and further increased interest in the campaign.
