This year's Oscars 2026 brought a real festival of emotions. The biggest winner of the gala was the film 'One Battle After Another', which claimed the most important statuettes. Triumphs on stage included Michael B. Jordan and Jessie Buckley, while Maciek Szczerbowski, a Pole, was also among the winners. There was also no shortage of controversy and jokes, especially towards Timothée Chalamet, who became one of the most commented on characters of the evening.

Oscars 2026: ‘One battle after the other’ the biggest winner

The Oscars 2026 were an unqualified triumph for ‘One Battle After Another’, directed by Paul Thomas Anderson. The production won the most important statuette – the Oscar for Best Picture – as well as several other awards, including Best Director and Adapted Screenplay.

In total, the film won a whopping six statuettes, making it the absolute king of this year’s gala.

Although there was a lot of talk about other productions before the gala, it was ‘One Battle After Another’ that took the biggest prize pot. Some high-profile titles had to do without despite numerous nominations.

Michael B. Jordan and Jessie Buckley with the most important acting awards

Among the acting triumphs of the evening were some of Hollywood’s biggest stars.

Michael B. Jordan won the Oscar for Best Leading Actor for his role in Sinners. His victory was quite a surprise, as many observers had pointed to Timothée Chalamet as the favourite.

The statuette for Best Supporting Actress, meanwhile, went to Jessie Buckley for her performance in ‘Hamnet’.

Amy Madigan and Sean Penn also with statuettes

In the supporting categories, the award winners were:

  • Amy Madigan – best supporting actress for her performance in “Disappearances”

  • Sean Penn – best supporting actor for his role in “One Battle After Another”

Interestingly, Penn did not attend the gala in person, which immediately triggered a wave of comments on social media.

Oscars 2026 and a Polish accent. Maciek Szczerbowski with a statuette

For Polish viewers, one of the highlights of the gala was Maciek Szczerbowski’s success.

The filmmaker co-directed the short animation The Girl Who Cried Pearls, which won an Oscar in its category. He received the award together with Canadian director Chris Lavis.

The film tells the story of a boy in love with a girl whose tears turn into pearls.

Timothée Chalamet the butt of jokes at the start of the gala

Although Timothée Chalamet did not win a statuette, he still found himself in the spotlight. He appeared at the gala in a white suit from Givenchy.

During the ceremony, presenter Conan O’Brien took the liberty of making a joke about the actor, referring to his earlier controversial statements about opera and ballet.
