Renowned volleyball player and world champion joins the Confederation!

Former captain of the Polish national volleyball team enters politics

Marcin Możdżonek, Polish volleyball legend and 2014 world champion, has officially joined the Konfederacja grouping, becoming part of Slawomir Mentzen’s New Hope party. This is another case of a well-known figure from the world of sport entering the political scene. The news was announced on 4 June 2025 at a press conference in the Sejm.

Mentzen emphasised that he has known Możdżonek for years, and that their acquaintance began with the “Beer with Mentzen” meeting in Olsztyn. Since then, they have worked together, among other things, on the occasion of the presidential campaign. In the opinion of the New Hope leader, Marcin Możdżonek is a man with a moral backbone and determined to act for the benefit of Poland.

Marcin Możdżonek in politics – why Confederation?

Możdżonek explained that his decision to enter politics matured over a long period of time. In his own words:

I have always been interested in politics, commented on it and took part in discussions. Now the moment has come to be active.

According to the former volleyball player, the Confederation best reflects his beliefs and worldview, so it was a natural step for him to officially join this grouping. He is already socially active – he is a municipal councillor in Olsztyn and the president of the Supreme Hunting Council.

Marcin Możdżonek’s new role in the Confederation

Sławomir Mentzen announced that Marcin Możdżonek will take on the role of coordinator of the Confederation’s activities in the Warmińsko-Mazurskie region. This is an important step in the expansion of the party’s structures in north-eastern Poland. Mentzen pointed out:

We need people who are hard-working, ambitious and capable of playing as a team. Marcin is exactly such a person.

A sportsman with a mission. What has Możdżonek achieved?

It is worth remembering that Marcin Możdżonek is one of the most successful volleyball players in the history of Poland. In his career, he has won a gold medal at the World Championships (2014), gold at the European Championships (2009), victory in the World League (2012) and runner-up at the World Cup (2011).

After his sporting career, he became involved in social and educational activities, promoting sport among young people and supporting local initiatives.
