Eurovision 2024 is fast approaching, and with it more exciting proposals from Polish artists. One of the bold candidates to represent Poland at Eurovision 2024 is experienced singer Justyna Steczkowska, who first stood on the Eurovision stage back in 1995. Her latest song, `WITCH-ER Tarohoro', is making its debut on all streaming platforms. Will it be the one that secures her a ticket to the competition?

Eurovision 2023 and the premiere of Justyna Steczkowska’s song

Justyna Steczkowska has given her fans a special gift – information about her Eurovision 2024 proposal! ‘WITCH-ER Tarohoro’ is a track set to a club rhythm with elements of Slavic culture. It officially debuted on 29 December, but rumours about it had already been circulating since the final of The Voice of Poland, where Justyna is a juror. The artist shared her thoughts on the song:

With this song, I want to tell you about our Slavic strength, courage and extraordinary energy, which is enchanted in music and words. JARGA DRAGO WESE TRADO ISTRA WEJAR VALVELADODEJA’… these are the extraordinary Slavic words of power, which, together with the song, will give you strength and courage. They will wrap you in love and protect you from bad and heavy energy. This song contains our primal force of creation, creativity and true power.

Both the lyrics and the production of the song are the result of Steczkowska’s collaboration with Hotel Torino, where she was supported by the duo Patryk Kumór and Dominik Buczkowski-Wojtaszek. Composer Emilian Waluchowski also joined the creative team, and the lyrics were written by Maria Dzielęciak, known as Marissa, and Carla Fernandes. It is worth mentioning that the whole team previously worked on the ballad `I Just Need a Friend’, which represented Poland at Eurovision Junior 2023.

Eurovision 2024 – who from Poland?

Currently, the details of the selection of Poland’s representative for Eurovision 2024 are unknown. Among the artists declared to take part are Justyna Steczkowska, Marcin Maciejczak, Luna with her song `The Tower’ and Edyta Górniak. However, the final decisions on the matter remain a mystery. Online, rumours about the alleged cancellation of the preselection competition and Justyna’s sending to Malmö are becoming more and more heated. If this turns out to be true, the conflict between Górniak and Steczkowska may become even more heated. That’s not all! Fans of the Eurovision Song Contest believe that it should be Jann or an artist of the younger generation who should represent our country, and that such an act could jeopardise our success. Opinions, as you can see, are divided, and until we have an official decision, we will keep a close eye on the matter.

Eurovision 2024 – what do we already know?

The 68th Eurovision Song Contest will take place in Sweden, with Sweden hosting the event at the Malmö Arena. The semi-finals of the contest are scheduled for 7 and 9 May, with the grand final on 11 May 2024. The slogan for this year’s edition is `United By Music’. There will be 37 countries in the competition stakes, with Luxembourg returning to Eurovision after a 31-year break. In contrast, Bulgaria, North Macedonia and Slovakia have again decided not to participate. Representatives from Belgium, Cyprus, Greece, the Netherlands, Slovenia and the UK are already known, while France, the Czech Republic and Albania have announced their representatives. Poland has also confirmed its participation, but it remains a mystery who will represent our country.

Who has applied for internal selection?

The details of who will represent Poland are still unclear. One likely scenario is an internal nomination. Justyna Steczkowska, being one of the main candidates, may be indicated to represent Poland. However, open internal selections would help to build a climate of anticipation every year, engaging artists and composers to create new proposals. Poland already has an impressive list of those interested in Eurovision, including not only Steczkowska, but also Luna, Marcin Maciejczak, Izabela Zabielska, Natasza Urbańska, Dominika Kwiatkowska, the Spleenn group, Mr Narcussus, Sonia Maselik, Anna Jurksztowicz or Edyta Górniak. The selection of a representative through internal selections would allow an artist always feared by the public to emerge, creating anticipation and excitement ahead of Eurovision 2024.
