Maryla Rodowicz’s new album

Maryla Rodowicz is going through a unique stage in her career — the artist is turning 80 and celebrating the release of her 25th album, Niech żyje bal (Long Live the Ball). It is a musical project in which the legend of the Polish music scene returns to her greatest hits, presenting them in completely refreshed arrangements. The artist told Pomponik that the work on the album was so intense that she almost missed its official premiere.

Rodowicz on the power of the younger generation

The album was months in the making and became a meeting place for two generations — classics with a long history and a young wave of artists whose names dominate streaming services today. Rodowicz invited Mrozu, Dawid Kwiatkowski, Roksana Węgiel, Krzysztof Zalewski, Ralph Kaminski, Lanberry, and Bryska, among others, to collaborate. The album also features Błażej Król, Igor Herbut, and Misia Furtak, and closes with a club remix of “Ale to już było” by Tribbs. Thanks to these duets, Maryla was able to see for herself how powerful the young generation is.

A cool comment about Sanah: “I’m not a fan of such vocals.

Despite her vast stage experience, Rodowicz does not shy away from comparisons to contemporary performers. In an interview, she also referred to Sanah — one of the biggest stars of the younger generation. Her comment surprised with its honesty:

It’s such a polite, school-like vocal style. I’m not a fan of such vocals.

Recognition for Sanah’s success despite differences in style

Although her statement was cool, the singer did not deny Sanah’s success. She emphasized that the young artist’s popularity is indeed impressive.

I admire and congratulate her on her success. Because selling out such large stadiums is quite an achievement.

Rodowicz also recalled that at the height of her career, she also performed in the largest venues possible at the time, including the Centennial Hall in Wrocław and the Poznań Arena, but today’s gigantic stadiums are a completely different dimension of the musical phenomenon.
