Doda has once again caused a storm. This time the star claimed that she got rid of Hashimoto's through diet and supplements, without resorting to medication. Experts are sounding the alarm: such statements can harm patients and discourage them from seeking effective treatment.

Doda promotes supplements as `cure’ for Hashimoto’s

Dorota Rabczewska has been sharing her health experiences with fans for years. In the past, she has spoken about her battle with back pain, cutting down on alcohol or EMS training, among other things. She has also emphasised the role of a healthy diet – especially one rich in collagen. The artist has long shown an interest in natural medicine. One example is her ritual of oiling her navel with castor oil – a practice she claims improves digestion and sleep.

Experts remain sceptical.

There is no connection between the navel and fatty tissue, so from the point of view of conventional medicine – oiling it won’t change anything – commented Margaret Janik.

`I haven’t taken a single drug.’ Doda’s words have sparked controversy

Recently, Doda announced that her line of supplements will be expanded to include products that support – as she claims – Hashimoto’s treatment.

I haven’t taken a single drug, I’ve decided to cure myself only with an unconventional method – actually, in my opinion, the only effective one – which is a very healthy diet and supplements – she said in a video published on social media.

Her declaration has aroused huge emotions among doctors and medical organisations.

Doctors react: Supplements do not cure Hashimoto’s disease

In response to the artist’s statement, the Polish Telemedicine Society took the floor. The experts unequivocally rejected the idea of treating Hashimoto’s disease with supplements alone.

Hashimoto’s disease requires pharmacological treatment. (…) Abandoning pharmacotherapy can lead to serious complications, including metabolic, cardiovascular, neurological disorders and even hypometabolic coma, the PTT warns in an official statement.

The Society points out that supplements do not have the status of medicines and their effectiveness has not been confirmed in reliable clinical trials. Supplementation can only be an adjunct to diet – and only under medical supervision.

We encourage a critical approach to health information and to base treatment on medical knowledge and not on unproven reports, the PTT stresses.

A nutritionist also does not leave a dry thread on Doda

A similar position was presented by the well-known nutritionist Michał Wrzosek. He commented in harsh terms on the singer’s way of promoting supplements.

Despite what we may hear in the ad, let’s remember: supplements do not cure. And promoting a supplement as a sweet dessert, in my opinion, is at the very least unpalatable and irresponsible – especially as this dessert has maltitol syrup in the first place in its composition, followed by maltitol and sorbitol syrup – he noted.
