Elisabeth Starostecka – 60 years of marriage, 80 years of life and steadfast love

Elżbieta Starostecka, one of the brightest stars of Polish cinema in the 1960s and 1970s, recently appeared at the premiere of the film Uwierz w Mikołaja. Although she may be a forgotten figure to many, her contribution to Polish cinema remains unforgettable. For years she chose family life, devoting herself to her love for her husband Włodzimierz Korcz.

Elżbieta Starostecka’s career dedicated to her family

Elzbieta Starostecka won acclaim from audiences with roles in films such as Black Clouds, Noce i dnie and Trędowata. Although she was one of the most recognisable faces of Polish cinema, she decided to leave the stage and devote herself to family life. Elzbieta and Wlodzimierz’s love began when they were both studying at university. After a short time, they fell in love with each other and decided to be together. Their wedding, despite family opposition, took place two years after they first met, and the couple have been together ever since.

Korcz and Starostecka’s love at first sight

Włodzimierz Korcz remembers his first meeting with Elżbieta with fondness. Their common student years and first moments of falling in love undoubtedly created a romantic story.

We studied in the same building. They needed a pianist for a cabaret. We went to the bus stop, a tram pulled up with the doors open. There were so many people that it was impossible to get in. And if we hadn’t entered, we wouldn’t have made it to the wedding,” Włodzimierz Korcz recalls in an interview.

Despite her popularity and status as a film star, Elżbieta decided to withdraw from public life to focus on her family.

I prefer a quiet life

to

fame. I don’t want to arouse interest. However, I am flattered that people are interested in me, it is very nice,” recalls Elżbieta Starostecka in interviews with journalists.

Although Elżbieta Starostecka does not flaunt herself in the salons as she used to, she still looks exceptional at film premieres, celebrating 60 years of marriage to Włodzimierz Korcz. Her life is not only the story of her film career, but above all the story of enduring love and a relationship that has stood the tests of time.
