From Hugh Hefner’s villa to the tent – what happened to Louise Glover?

In 2006, Louise Glover, aged just 23, became the first British woman awarded the title of ‘Playboy Model of the Year’. She lived in Hugh Hefner’s iconic Los Angeles mansion and rotated with celebrities such as Leonardo DiCaprio and Rihanna. She was dubbed the ‘British Carmen Electra’ by the media and her career was gaining momentum.

Unfortunately, as the years went by, things started to fall apart. Health problems following breast augmentation surgery – including septicaemia and cardiac arrest – forced her to change her lifestyle. She focused on her health and her career in fitness, winning prestigious titles and working with the Nike brand, among others.

Financial crisis and losing the roof over her head

After a career in modelling, Louise Glover set up her own fitness business. Unfortunately, pandemonium and rising living costs led to her downfall. When the rent on her flat rose from £550 to £750 a month, Glover was no longer able to pay it.

Overnight, she lost the roof over her head. She now lives in a tent on the outskirts of Reading, England.

They just gave me a blanket. I felt invisible,” she says bitterly in an interview with the British media.

Despite numerous attempts, she did not get support from the local authorities – she did not meet the criteria because she has no children or a permanent partner.

Boat collection – a chance to return to normality

Desperate Louise Glover has launched a fundraiser on the GoFundMe platform, asking for help to raise £9,000 to buy a houseboat.

I want not just to survive, but to live again. The boat is a chance for me to stabilise, to rebuild my mental and professional health,” explains the former Playboy star.

Her story has touched thousands of internet users, who cannot hide their shock that such a well-known figure could find herself in such a dramatic situation. There have been numerous expressions of support and calls for help on social media.

Louise Glover: Homelessness does not have one face

Homelessness has different faces. It is possible to look normal, wear make-up and yet sleep in a car or in a tent, Glover points out.

Her words are a reminder that the problem of homelessness affects not only anonymous people, but also those who once shone on the covers of magazines.
