“I started dancing, I stripped naked”. – Katarzyna Figura on giving birth at 43

I had some sort of flat. I was accepted as a star. … I was alone. Later, my husband came along. But then I thought, after all, I’m 43 years old. What am I doing.

Mature age and circumstances pointed to the need for special care – and she recalls the whole event as a special moment.

A moment of ease and authenticity

Although a caesarean section was planned, the actress says the birth went differently. As she emphasises:

‘I was given a medicine for my spine, which made all the tension go away. I entered a state of absolute happiness. I started dancing, I stripped naked. I told the anaesthetist that I loved her. I told everyone that love and peace and happiness.

These words are indicative of a moment when real presence, joy and body awareness mattered more than procedure.

A showcase birth – and a message to other women

Figura recalls that doctors and a midwife judged her birth to be a “showcase birth” and recommended that perhaps it should be shown as an example to future mothers. As the actress herself adds:

‘They should have recorded it to show to all mums-to-be so they approach the task in a relaxed way.
