Grzegorz Krychowiak is saying goodbye to the national team. ´Thank you´.

In his post on Instagram, Krychowiak shares his thoughts on his adventure with the national team:

Playing 100 matches with the eagle on my chest for the rest of my life will be the greatest honour for me both as a person and as an athlete. Sports-wise, there is no more beautiful moment than singing the anthem before a national team match at the National Stadium. However, the time has come to say “thank you”.

Today I resign from the Polish national team. I would like to thank the fans who were with us for better or worse, in every match I gave as much as I could to make you proud of us. I would like to thank my wife, my family, my coaches, my staff members and everyone I met on my representative path. I keep my fingers crossed for every next match and see you in the stands! – wrote the footballer.

The comments under the post on Instagram were full of words of support and thanks to Krychowiak. Among them, teammates such as Arek Milik, Krzysztof Piątek and Slawomir Peszko spoke out. The Polish Football Association also commented on the footballer’s decision:

Krycha, thanks for the years we spent together. It was a special time, you are great!

Krychowiak’s decision surprised many fans, especially as the new national team coach, Michal Probierz, was full of praise for the footballer recently:

‘He is an outstanding player who represents the national colours, so he deserves a lot of respect. (…) We are yet to see all these footballers and will call up the outstanding ones.

Before Probierz, Fernando Santos had not called Krychowiak into the squad for the qualifying matches against the Czech Republic and Albania. The footballer returned to the squad in September. When asked about his return to the national team, he replied:

There was no information about the call-up beforehand, I got a call like any other player and the big change was not there.

I had to cancel a booking at one restaurant in Paris. I am happy that I can still help this national team. Every time I get called up, I will turn up with a smile and fight to show a very good side,” he added.
