Izabella Miko and Maciej Zakościelny met in 2006, when they were both taking their first steps in their careers – she in Hollywood, he in Poland, where he gained recognition as Assistant Commissioner Marek Brodecki from the TV series Kryminalni. Their first meeting took place at a family party – Miko’s sister-in-law’s name day – and, as the actress recalled, there was an immediate spark between them.

Their affection developed quickly and the couple made their red carpet debut together at the premiere of the film Why Not! in 2007. Miko, who by then already had roles in American productions, was ready to give up her burgeoning career in the US to be closer to her beloved. She moved into his flat in Warsaw, and wedding plans began to germinate in her mind.

Despite serious intentions on her part, the engagement never happened. After finishing working together on the film Kochaj i tańcz, Izabella packed her bags and left Zakościelny’s flat. According to media reports, it was Maciek’s lack of readiness for marriage that supposedly determined the split.

In 2008, the tabloids still believed that the acting couple would give each other a second chance. There were also rumours about Zakościelny’s mother’s alleged dislike of Miko, but neither party addressed the speculation. Instead, years later Izabella speaks of the relationship with great tenderness.
