Julia Wieniawa candidly about her school experiences:“I was treated through the prism of my looks and my role in a TV series”Julia Wieniawa, considered one of the most popular young actresses in Poland, opened up about the difficult school experiences that affected her confidence. Wieniawa stressed that the lack of support from teachers and social pressure had a significant impact on her growing up and her mental health.

Memories of her school years: pressure and exclusion

Wieniawa recounted how, in primary school, the pressure to own fashionable things affected peer relationships. She admitted that not having access to the ‘most fashionable’ clothes caused exclusion. The actress confessed that she was often one of the last people to get popular things, which affected her self-perception.It used to be that economic exclusion played out at the level of converses or a coat from Zara.If someone had clothes from a lumberjack or from an older sister, they were excluded,” she recalled.

Lack of support and stereotypes

Despite the success she has achieved by starring in the popular series Rodzinka.pl, Julia has had to contend with unpleasant comments from both peers and teachers. The actress confessed that many people treated her with superiority because of her career on TV.When I started playing in Rodzinka, it started to get different kinds of comments. I heard that someone must have arranged it for me. I was asked what I had done for the role. And I recall that I was 14 years old at the time! On the other hand, a lot of people wanted to be friends with me. That’s when I started to notice that people are self-interested“.Wieniawa emphasised.

Criticism from teachers

The most difficult moments were related to the reactions from the teachers. Julia confessed that instead of support, she was met with ridicule and stereotypical judgements. The worst was when it was the teachers who added fuel to the fire. In high school, they often clipped my wings. ‘What’s up star, have you learnt?’ They judged me by the fact that I was starring in a show. They treated me on the basis of: `A, pretty, that’s silly‘,” she said, describing how such experiences affected her self-esteem.

I can’t believe teachers would treat her like that! It’s unacceptable to judge a student based on their outside activities.
