Kuba Badach recalls his first meeting with the Kwaśniewskis

Kuba Badach and Aleksandra Kwaśniewska have been married since 2012. Although both are well-known public figures, they rarely share details of their private lives. This makes the musician’s stories about the early days of his relationship with the daughter of the former presidential couple all the more intriguing.

During a conversation with Kayah on RMF Classic, the artist recalled his first dinner with Jolanta and Aleksander Kwaśniewski. The meeting took place at Aleksandra’s flat. Badach made no secret of the fact that the situation was stressful for him — especially the moment when he found himself face to face with the former President of Poland.

He decided to defuse the tension in his characteristic way, by making light of the situation.

When I first met my future in-laws, Ola organised a dinner at her flat. I remember her mum beaming, and then this man walked in — the president. I just stood there and, unfortunately, as is usually the case with me, my mouth moved faster than my thoughts. I said I didn’t know whether to say ‘good evening’ or start singing the Polish national anthem straight away,” Badach confessed.

Many years have passed since that meeting, and family relationships have changed significantly. Kuba Badach revealed that he now addresses his wife’s parents in a very familiar way — ‘Mum’ and ‘Dad’.

The musician has become part of one of the most recognisable families in Poland, which from the outset meant far greater media attention for him. In a conversation with Kayah, he admitted that he was aware of the consequences of his relationship with Aleksandra Kwaśniewska, although he was unable to foresee the extent of them.

The high profile of Aleksandra Kwaśniewska and her parents meant that Kuba Badach’s life, too, began to attract the interest of a much wider audience. The artist was aware that his marriage might influence the way his own career was perceived.

He admitted quite frankly that he had begun to worry whether he would now be seen as a careerist. After all, the musician already had an established position on the Polish music scene, so the additional attention arising from his private life was a completely new situation for him.

Kuba Badach noticed new audience members at his concerts

The change was particularly noticeable after his marriage to Aleksandra Kwaśniewska. At his concerts, Kuba Badach noticed people who had not previously been interested in his work. Some members of the audience came primarily to see ‘Kwaśniewska’s husband’ with their own eyes .

“In the first few months after our wedding, I saw faces at my concerts of people who were there for the first time, out of curiosity, to see who ‘Kwaśniewska’s husband’ was. They had no idea what I played. For me, it was brilliant,” he said.
