Maja Kapłon, finalist of the 8th edition of 'The Voice of Poland', has undergone as many as 20 spinal operations in her life. Five years ago, her condition deteriorated dramatically and her only salvation was an expensive operation in the United States. Thanks to the support of internet users, it was possible to raise PLN 5 million for the surgery, which saved her life. Now, on the anniversary of the landmark moment, the singer has shared her reflections and expressed her gratitude to those who helped her get back on her feet.

Dramatic battle for health

Maja Kapłon gained popularity as a participant in the 8th edition of ‘The Voice of Poland’, where she was initially on Michal Szpak’s team and then Maria Sadowska’s. Even then, she talked about her illness – she had struggled with scoliosis since childhood, which required numerous operations. In 2019, her health deteriorated rapidly. The rod stabilising her spine ruptured, leading to severe breathing problems. Life could only be saved by a complicated operation in the United States, at a cost of 5 million zlotys.Having no such resources, the singer turned to internet users for help. The huge commitment of people made it possible to collect the necessary amount of money and carry out the operation, which gave her a second chance at life.

Gratitude after five years

To mark the fifth anniversary of her surgery, Maja Kaplon posted an archive video on her social media from the hospital, in which she can be seen moving around with the help of a walker. She accompanied the video with a touching post:

Today marks exactly five years since I’ve been alive thanks to you ,’ she wrote.

The reaction of fans to her memories was enormous. The artist received a lot of messages full of support and warm words.

I am happy to share my story and be an example of fighting for myself. But also to give strength to the insecure by sometimes posting my scars or reminiscing about therapy. The web is stuffed with fey beauty, and I prefer to work in silence rather than feed people anything other than the emotions from the muse – she stressed in a subsequent post.

“I was afraid I might not wake up”.

The artist also shared a photo taken just after the operation, the first picture of her swollen muse waking up getting a new lease of life.

And I can’t hide the fact that I was afraid I might not wake up – she confessed.
