Marcin Dorociński's unique project is attracting attention - the actor impersonates the icon of Polish cinema, Zbigniew Cybulski, and on this occasion, together with master photographer Tadeusz Rolke, he recreated the iconic 1966 photo shoot. The result? Authentic, moving and respectful of current heritage.

Iconic image from years ago returns

Dorocinski has published photos inspired by the shoot in which Cybulski starred decades ago – in his distinctive coat, dark glasses and strong gaze. The actor emphasises that:

‘I had the extraordinary honour of recreating Cybulski’s famous 1966 photo shoot by Tadeusz Rolke. Behind the camera once again stood the Master. Meeting Tadeusz, working on this project, talking about Cybulski, photography, cinema – it was much more for us than just photographs.

So this project is not just another stylisation – it is a poignant reference to an era and a person who changed the face of Polish cinema.

The challenge of impersonating an icon

Preparations for the film How to Be Loved, in which Dorociński will play Cybulski, took concrete form precisely thanks to this shoot. In his post, the actor confessed:

All Souls’ Day: a day of remembrance, reflection, gratitude, and today is Zbyszek Cybulski’s birthday. Today I think about him with considerable emotion – about his charisma, his legend, and about how much he changed Polish cinema and the way we think about acting.

To play a character as expressive as Cybulski is a task requiring not only talent, but also a deep attention to detail and the time in which he lived.

Reactions from Internet users and the importance of the project

The photographs have been very well received, with comments from fans highlighting Dorociński’s great resemblance to Cybulski’s character and the rendering of the atmosphere of the original. The project also has an educational dimension, recalling the work of an actor who died young but whose legend lives on. For contemporary viewers, it is not only a visual tribute, but also a reminder of the role played by the pioneers of Polish cinema in shaping its culture.
