Career on a roll, private life in the shadows

Maria Debska has gained popularity for her roles in productions such as “Sleboda” and “Only One Look”. The actress is also successfully building an international career, taking part in foreign castings and working on sets outside Poland. However, despite her professional success, privately things did not turn out as she had dreamed.

In August 2020, she married actor Marcin Bosak. Unfortunately, their marriage ended in divorce after just under two years – in March 2022.

‘I clenched my teeth at night’ – Maria Debska on life in marriage

The decision to separate was not an easy one. In an interview with Magda Mołek on the programme ‘In My Style’, Debska revealed what the backstage of her daily life in marriage was like:

‘I clenched my teeth at night, very hard and in many situations to stifle it, wipe my tears in the kitchen and come back smiling.

Although she initially perceived the divorce as a personal failure, over time she saw it as an important life lesson.

I had lost. Even though I was 31 years old. But I can’t say I regret it. Otherwise I would have drifted, I wouldn’t have stood on my own two feet.

Life lesson: “I was too nice”.

In an interview with Zwierciadło magazine, the actress revealed that one of her key problems was that she was overly polite and not assertive:

When you’re nice, people think you’re letting them overstep your boundaries.

Debska stressed that she had been told from childhood to always be nice and polite – both at home and at music school. This habit led to a situation where she neglected her own needs, focusing solely on others.

This message is usually coupled with another: don’t let it be known that someone has offended you, that something has hurt you.

It wasn’t until film school that she heard that she should stop being so nice and start putting up boundaries.

After her divorce, Maria Debska concentrated on herself and her career. By her own admission, the last year has been a breakthrough for her. Although not without difficulties, the actress has gained a new perspective and inner strength. She has opened up to change and now knows the importance of taking care of herself and her boundaries.
