Maryla Rodowicz, known for her distinctive voice and exceptional charisma, had been building her prolific artistic career since the 1960s. However, her private life, full of stormy romances and emotional relationships, was not always as successful as her musical achievements. One of these relationships she still recalls with bitterness today.

Maryla Rodowicz’s turbulent love affairs

Rodowicz has had several high-profile romances that have heated the imagination of fans and been discussed in the media. Her relationship with actor Daniel Olbrychski, which began in the early 1970s, was one of the most controversial. It lasted for three years and was marred by difficulties, especially because of Olbrychski’s unregulated relationship with his then wife, Monika Dzienisiewicz. Other famous partners of Rodowicz included Krzysztof Jasiński and Andrzej Jaroszewicz, and eventually the singer married Andrzej Dużyński, with whom she eventually divorced.

Maryla’s affair was a disaster

One of the most unhappy phases of Rodowicz’s emotional life was her brief relationship with photographer Krzysztof Gierałtowski. After returning from the Czech Republic, where she ended her toxic relationship with František Janeček, she met Gierałtowski during a cover shoot. Although there was a quick spark between them, it turned out that this relationship did not bring Maryla happiness. The photographer, in love with the artist, took her in at his flat, but the conditions he offered were far from luxurious – Rodowicz had to sleep on a mattress on the floor in an empty room.

The photographer took revenge on Maryla

Disappointed by the situation, Maryla decided to end the relationship. Gierałtowski, unable to come to terms with the separation, decided to take revenge. During the Sopot festival, he informed other photographers that he had exclusive rights to take her photos, so that the historic moment when Maryla sang ‘Malgosia’ for the first time was documented only by him. What’s more, the money Maryla won at the festival – 25,000 zloty – which she entrusted to a photographer to keep, he kept for himself. He claimed that these were the costs for her staying with him. On top of this, he did not give her the stage costumes she needed for her tour of Italy and France. Although the artist got her belongings back, the experience left a permanent mark on her memories.
