Michal Koterski: Surprising confession about treatment by directors

Michał Koterski has won the hearts of audiences with his role as Sylvus Miauczyński in the film Day of the Pig. The actor revealed surprising details about his status in the film industry. Koterski admitted that he is still not fully appreciated by other directors.

Marzena Rogalska hosts a popular show on TVN Style in which she interviews many celebrities. Thanks to her sense of humour and openness, her show has become very popular with both viewers and guests. In the latest episode, Rogalska’s guest was none other than Michał Koterski, who shared his experiences in the film industry.

Honest confessions of Michał Koterski

During the interview, Marzena Rogalska asked Koterski how his colleagues in the industry relate to the fact that he has no formal training as an actor, even though he has achieved considerable success. Koterski replied: `My professional colleagues don’t seem to have a problem with it anymore, but it’s because, as it were, the ones I’m in touch with, the ones I perform with, the ones I play with, well, they’re kind of verified on the stage that they can rely on me, which is very nice for me, because in the past you couldn’t count on me at all. When someone heard that I was going to take part in a project, they tended to run away and back off, because they didn’t know if I was going to get there.”

Grażyna Wolszczak could not help

Koterski also recounted a painful experience which shows that his artistic output is not always enough to gain recognition. Despite the support of an actress friend, Grażyna Wolszczak, he encountered rejection from the director: “Not long ago Grażyna Wolszczak invited me to join her in the theatre, for some performance, but unfortunately afterwards she called […] that she really wanted to and that she loved me and so on, but that the director says that I’m not an actor.”

Michal Koterski admitted that such situations hurt him, but stressed his many years of experience and cooperation with the most outstanding actors in Poland. His artistic output is impressive and many film school graduates cannot boast a similar achievement. Koterski noted that he is confident in his skills and believes that “an actor is a being, not a being”, and he “has been an actor a lot lately”.
