Piotr Polk: The actor studied Polish diligently!

The difficult beginnings of Piotr Polk

Piotr Polk, known for such productions as “Ojciec Mateusz” and “Plebania”, was born in Kalety in Silesia. Although his family lived in Poland, the everyday language at home was Silesian dialect and German. The actor has told in interviews that he had to take care of learning proper Polish himself. It was during his theatre studies that he began to work intensively on mastering Polish, which proved crucial to his acting career.

The actor’s steadfast determination

Polk was not discouraged by the initial difficulties. In interviews, he recalls that despite his lack of previous familiarity with literary Polish, he was determined to develop his acting skills. He recalls how important it was for him to learn both the language and acting, which allowed him to pursue his dreams and perform on Polish stages and in front of the cameras.

• “At home we spoke dialect and German. It wasn’t until I studied at drama school that I learned proper Polish,” he said in an interview, noting that this was one of the biggest obstacles he had to overcome in order to fulfil himself professionally.

Mastering the Polish language allowed him to develop his career and become one of the leading actors. Today, Polk admires the younger version of himself for the determination he showed in his youth, knowing that acting would not be possible without a perfect command of the Polish language.
