Storm around research: Chodakowska responds to doctors’ criticism

For years, Ewa Chodakowska has been regarded as one of the most influential figures in the fitness world in Poland. In addition to her workouts, she promotes a healthy lifestyle through her VOD platform, diet, cosmetics and ‘Be Active’ magazine. Recently, she has also been involved in a campaign on women’s health, presenting the Endomkit test kit.

The kit was designed for women struggling with symptoms of endometriosis. According to the originators, it was intended to help assess the health status and hormonal profile of patients. However, it is its promotion that has been met with criticism.

Medics and foundations sound the alarm

The endometriosis foundation drew attention to the incompatibility with the gynaecological societies’ guidelines. As highlighted:

‘We would like to remind you that the PTGiP recommendations for the diagnosis and treatment of endometriosis indicate that CA-125 or other markers from blood, endometrium, urine and uterine cavity fluid should not be used as stand-alone diagnostic markers for endometriosis.

Doctors were also among those commenting. Gynaecologist Dr Mikołaj Karmowski did not spare any harsh words:

Celebrity greed knows no bounds, even at the expense of lost women suffering from endometriosis.

Chodakowska’s response: “It wasn’t about the diagnosis”.

Faced with a rising tide of comments, Ewa Chodakowska published a lengthy clarification. She stressed that the packages were prepared by experts in the field of medical diagnosis:

All the packages were developed by specialists in medical laboratory diagnostics, doctors of medical science.

The trainer pointed out that the test kit was not intended to diagnose endometriosis:

The aim was not to communicate that the test package was a diagnostic test for endometriosis, allowing a diagnosis of endometriosis to be made.

The intention, she added, was to give patients a better insight into their overall health and endocrine function.

In the face of numerous comments and disagreements, it was decided to remove the controversial package:

Due to a considerable number of comments striking at the credibility of the package, despite clear information about its supportive function – diagnostic specialists, have decided to remove this package from the offer.

The case shows how important it is to communicate health-related content clearly and in line with medical knowledge – especially when sensitive topics such as endometriosis are involved.
