A tragicomedy that still moves

Friedrich Dürrenmatt created The Visit of the Old Lady in 1956, but the play is still relevant today. The characters’ adventures reveal the mechanisms that govern society and prompt reflection on human morality. Despite its tragic overtones, there are also humorous elements, which add lightness and perversity to the play. It is Dürrenmatt’s comedic shtick that gives the drama a universal dimension, moving generations of viewers.

The Visit of the Old Lady – Direction and cast

Małgorzata Bogajewska, who has been triumphing in the world of theatre for years, is responsible for directing the production. Since 2016, she has been the artistic director of Teatr Ludowy in Krakow, and her productions have been recognised at prestigious festivals. Her credits include the award-winning “Uncle Vanya” by Anton Chekhov. Chekhov’s “Uncle Vanya”, as well as television adaptations of “Daily Soup” and “Daddy”. A plethora of outstanding actors appear on screen. Malgorzata Hajewska-Krzysztofik plays the role of Klara Zachanassian, and Alfred Illa is played by Andrzej Grabowski. Audiences will also see Dorota Kolak, Jan Peszek, Cezary Pazura and Jan Englert, as well as Michał Czernecki, Beata Schimscheiner, Dominika Kluźniak and Mateusz Rusin.
