Julia Wieniawa, like many other celebrities, called on women to actively participate in the upcoming elections. The method she chose did not win the approval of Jan Śpiewak, among others. Was it really misguided?

The number one topic in the Polish media at the moment is the elections. The public campaign for a higher turnout, which is scheduled for 15 October, has been going on for weeks. Not only local government bodies, but also celebrities are involved in encouraging people to exercise their right to vote.

Julia Wieniawa encourages voter participation

Julia Wieniawa has also voiced her opinion on the subject. A few days ago, the 24-year-old posted a video in which, in an original way, she urges her female fans to go to the polls.

Hey, girl, stop for a moment and listen to me,” she begins in her video and gets straight to the point: I have a question for you. When you open your wardrobe, do you like to have choices? Me too… And when you go to a restaurant for breakfast, do you like to have a choice? Well, me too. And when you go to the shop, do you like to have a choice? Me too. I use it. Now that there is an election on 15 October, I implore you to use that choice and cast your vote. We fought so many years to have the right to vote, so now that we have it, let’s not waste it. I’m going to the election, how about you?

he quips.

Jan Spiewak criticised Julia Wieniawa. It’s about a video about the election

The young celebrity’s video did not meet with general approval. Many comments appeared under the post from internet users dissatisfied with her statement. On his profile, Jan Śpiewak also expressed his dissatisfaction with the form taken by Wieniawa. He pointed out that the comparisons she used had little to do with the experiences of the majority of the population. ‘

Comparing political elections to shopping or going to a restaurant shows how liberals and the rich imagine democracy,’ he wrote on InstaStories under a snippet of the star’s video

.
He also posted messages from female observers who were equally outraged by her statement. ‘

But this is, above all, monstrously offensive rhetoric for women: talking to us as if we were idiots who have to be shown a primitive analogy because they certainly won’t understand otherwise,’ notes one. Going to a restaurant for breakfast. I wonder how many percent of Polish women eat breakfast in pubs, adds another.

InstagramWas this really misplaced? Or is this an overstated criticism? We asked Julia for a comment on the matter, but had not received a response by the time the article was published.
